Curriculum Topics

As you begin your career as a science or mathematics teacher, you will need to create your own lesson plans and activities that will enable your students to learn what you want them to know. This is an empowering part of teaching – building your curriculum, using your own ideas and creativity, based on the broad concepts outlined by the Maine Learning Results content standards. However, it is also time-consuming and can be intimidating; at the same time, you will likely also be struggling with the day-to-day issues of managing the requirements of the classroom, and may not have enough time to do everything that needs to be done.

There are lots of online resources available to help, but some are more useful than others. The last thing you want to do is spend precious time surfing the web, only to come up with lesson ideas that have not been tested or don’t quite fit your topic. This page is intended to point you to teacher-tested, curriculum-aligned lesson ideas from reputable sources. We will be expanding our list as we find new ideas – please feel free to pass along sies you have found to be particularly valuable!
