The College of Arts and Sciences serves as the intellectual core of the university, offering study in fine and performing arts, humanities, natural sciences and mathematics, and social sciences. We offer 45 undergraduate majors and minors, a self-designed major program, and six graduate degree programs. The College of Arts and Sciences is large and diverse with more than
3,100 undergraduate majors and 300 graduate students. But our class sizes are small and faculty members are actively engaged with their students. Our students routinely participate in faculty research projects, internships, artistic endeavors, service learning projects, and study abroad programs.

USM Students Awarded Four New Dean's Scholarships
September 13, 2010
Four University of
Southern Maine students have been awarded new Dean’s Scholarships of
$1,000 each, renewable for up to four years.
The recipients, all of
whom are freshmen, are: Jordan Maroon, an English major from Winslow;
Siri Norman, a linguistics major from Auburn; Janson O’Neill, a
chemistry major from Biddeford; and Jacob White, a theatre major from
Turner.
The Dean’s Scholarships
are based on proven academic achievement and are eligible for renewal as
long as recipients earn a minimum grade point average of 3.0 each fall
and spring semester.
The scholarships were
made possible thanks to the support of individuals who serve on the
university’s Arts and Sciences Advisory Board. “We are fortunate to
have community advisors from various fields and professions who care
deeply enough about this university to offer us their guidance and who
also want to support our students through their financial
contributions,” said Dean Lynn Kuzma.
