Brief Description.  This course is the second of a two semester introductory sequence in physics for science majors.  Calculus is not used in this course.  If you need a calculus based course, you should register for PHY 123.  The topics covered are electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and several topics from contemporary physics.

Prerequisite:  Physics 111 or equivalent.

Instructor: Robert Coakley, coakley@usm.maine.edu

Text: PHYSICS, 6th ed by Douglas Giancoli.  People just starting with the second semester should get only volume 2.  An OPTIONAL study guide is available.

Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday and Friday from 8:45 - 10:00 in 303 Payson Smith.  The usual pattern  will be about two classes devoted to new material followed by a class devoted to review of assigned problems.

Lab is a separate course.  If you need the lab, register for PHY 116.
