Waterfront Redevelopment in Portland, ME
A boost to the tourist economy or a nuisance for Portland residents?
Waterfront redevelopment is a highly dynamic and politicized aspect of urban renewal. Portland is currently considering a complete change on a large section of the waterfront housing the current ferry terminal. This includes a change in the location of the Scotia Prince, queuing for the Scotia Prince cars, changes for island residents and accommodations for cruise ships; all for the hopes of increased tourism and commerce for the old port area. This kind of redevelopment spurs criticisms from residents and creates hope for business owners.
