Creative Expression Cultural Heritage Criticism & Aesthetics
CULTURAL HERITAGE: Students will understand the cultural contributions (social, ethical, political, religious dimensions) of the arts, how the arts shape and are shaped by prevailing cultural and social beliefs and values, and recognize exemplary works from a variety of cultures and historical periods.

ARTISTS & WORKS      
PK-2-a. (1.) Recognize samples of major styles and techniques of the visual art forms from different cultural or ethnic groups. 3-4-a. (1.) Recognize selected major periods of the visual arts and identify major artists and their work (selected by the art teacher). 5-8-a. (1.) Classify visual art works, which represent various cultures, by genre and style, identifying their distinguishing characteristics (to include Maine artists). Sec-a. (1.) Compare two or more visual art works by identifying the genre, style, historical period and conditions, probable artist, and cultural source.
